Frequently asked questions

You have questions. We have straight answers.

No marketing language. Just honest answers to what people actually ask before installing TruJob.

TruJob is built for active job seekers in the United States who use Gmail and LinkedIn. If you receive recruiter emails or LinkedIn messages and want a faster way to tell which ones are real before you respond, TruJob is for you.

It is built for candidates, not companies. There is no recruiter-facing product.

TruJob installs from the Chrome Web Store in three steps. Visit the TruJob listing, click Add to Chrome, and confirm. Sign in with Google when TruJob opens. That is it. The next recruiter email or LinkedIn message you open gets scanned automatically.

The Chrome Web Store listing goes live on December 26, 2026. Join the waitlist for a launch-day reminder.

No. TruJob only activates when you open a recruiter email or LinkedIn message. It does not run continuously, watch your other tabs, or monitor what else you are doing in your browser.

Right-click the TruJob icon in your Chrome toolbar and select Remove from Chrome. Or go to chrome://extensions, find TruJob, and click Remove. Uninstalling takes a few seconds.

If you want to also clear your account, delete it first from your account page. That removes scan history and cancels any active subscription.

TruJob works with personal Gmail accounts. Google Workspace accounts (used by companies, schools, and organizations) may have admin restrictions that prevent third-party Chrome extensions from reading Gmail. If you are using a work or school Google account and TruJob will not load, check with your IT administrator.

TruJob always works on a personal Gmail account.

No. TruJob only sees the email you are actively viewing when it runs a scan. It cannot see your inbox as a whole, your email history, or any email you are not currently looking at.

TruJob extracts the signals it needs to score the email, then discards the source. The body text, subject line, sender name, and any other content are never stored, transmitted, or logged.

What TruJob keeps is anonymized scan signal data. That data describes the suspicious email, not you. Read our full privacy commitment.

No. Your email content is never used to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's. TruJob's models improve from anonymized signals, not from raw email content.

Never. TruJob does not sell, rent, license, or trade user information to any third party for any reason.

No. TruJob does not handle your Google password, your banking credentials, or any payment information stored on your device. Sign-in is handled by Google OAuth, which means you authenticate directly with Google. TruJob never sees your password.

TruJob never notifies your employer about anything. Scans are private to your account.

One thing to be aware of: if you install TruJob on a work computer or use it inside a Google Workspace account managed by your employer, your IT department may have visibility into Chrome extensions installed on company devices. That is a Chrome and Workspace policy matter, not a TruJob feature. If this is a concern, install TruJob on a personal device with a personal Gmail account.

The full privacy policy is at trujob.io/privacy. The plain-language version is at our commitment.

When you open a recruiter email or LinkedIn message, a TruJob panel appears automatically and shows the scan in progress. Within seconds you see three things: a verdict (Safe, Suspicious, or Scam), a risk score from 0 to 100 where lower is safer, and a plain-language breakdown of the signals that drove the result. You always see the reasoning, not just a colored badge.

If the panel does not appear, check that TruJob is enabled at chrome://extensions.

TruJob scores each email across multiple signal categories, including urgency language, salary plausibility, early personal-information requests, suspicious links, domain age, and sender pattern analysis. Free scans use rule-based detection. Pro scans add AI-powered analysis layered on top.

The signals get sent to TruJob's servers for analysis. The verdict comes back within seconds. The email content itself is discarded the moment the scan completes.

Job scams evolve constantly, and no detection tool will catch every one. TruJob is designed to give you a strong second opinion on top of your own judgment. If something feels off about an email, trust that feeling.

If you spot a scam TruJob missed, please tell us. Use the feedback button in the scan panel or email hello@trujob.io. Every report helps protect the next person.

Real recruiters sometimes use language patterns that overlap with scams, especially in cold outreach. The scan panel always shows you the specific reasons behind the verdict, so you can review the signals and make your own call.

Use the thumbs-down feedback button in the scan panel to flag false positives. That feedback goes directly into improving TruJob's accuracy for everyone.

At launch on December 26, 2026, TruJob is a Chrome desktop extension that works inside Gmail and LinkedIn. It does not yet work on mobile, the Gmail mobile app, Outlook, Yahoo Mail, or other email clients.

Mobile and additional platforms are on the roadmap. The fastest way to learn when they arrive is the newsletter.

We're sorry. Job scams target people at a vulnerable moment, and falling for one is not something to feel ashamed about. TruJob cannot undo a past scam, but here are the steps that matter most right now:

Report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and the FBI at ic3.gov. If you shared bank information, contact your bank the same day. If you shared a Social Security number, driver's license, or other ID, freeze your credit at all three bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion). Credit freezes are free and stop new accounts from being opened in your name.

TruJob is built so this doesn't happen again, to you or anyone else.

Yes. TruJob has a separate scan pathway designed for cash and informal workers. It runs entirely on your device. Nothing about you is ever transmitted to TruJob's servers. It is permanently free with no upgrade prompts and no account required. When you set up TruJob, select "cash or informal work" and that pathway activates automatically.

TruJob never collects, asks about, or stores your immigration status, employment status, or tax situation. For informal worker scans, nothing identifying you ever leaves your device. TruJob does not know who you are, where you are from, or how you work. If you choose the informal worker scan pathway, you leave no trace in TruJob's systems at all.

When TruJob detects patterns consistent with labor trafficking recruitment, such as requests to collect documents before any meeting, employer housing requirements, or upfront payment deductions, it surfaces a card with the National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733. The Hotline is free, confidential, and operates 24/7 in over 200 languages. TruJob never makes a determination about whether trafficking is occurring. It only recognizes patterns and offers a resource. Tapping the Hotline card creates no record in TruJob's systems.

Never. TruJob shares anonymous data about fraudulent operations, such as fake domains, upfront fee patterns, and trafficking recruitment signals, with organizations working to stop labor trafficking and job-search fraud. That data describes the scam, not the person who found it. No user ID, no device information, no location beyond country level, and no identifying information of any kind is ever shared with any authority.

Yes. TruJob's signal detection includes patterns specific to H-2A visa sponsorship fraud and agricultural worker scams: fake employer schemes, document collection before employment, and upfront fee requests. The informal worker pathway is available and permanently free. Spanish language support is on the roadmap.

Yes. TruJob uses Google OAuth for sign-in, which means you sign in with your existing Google account. There is no separate password to create or remember. TruJob never sees your Google password.

If the automated process fails for any reason, deletion is completed manually within 24 hours. Email hello@trujob.io if you need help.

At launch, TruJob is optimized for the United States and English-language emails. The scam patterns, salary benchmarks, and company verification sources are tuned to US data.

The extension itself will install and run anywhere Chrome is available. Detection accuracy outside the US will be lower until international support is added. Additional countries and languages are on the roadmap.

Email hello@trujob.io. Colin, TruJob's founder, reads every message personally during the pre-launch period and responds within one business day.

Your email content was never stored, so there is nothing to lose. Your scan history and account data would be deleted as part of any shutdown. TruJob would provide advance notice and a window to export your scan history before deletion.

Because TruJob is designed with minimal data retention from the start, a shutdown creates far less exposure than almost any other product you use.

Still have a question?

Email hello@trujob.io and we will respond personally within one business day. No support tickets, no chatbots, no escalation queues.
